Lean and Green
Soon after the start of the Sustainable Logistics Programme, it turned out that the word ‘sustainability’ did not inspire companies as much as it could and should. Whereas inspiration is just the condition for being creative, for thinking out-of-the-box and for findingcongenial partners and supporters.
Interviews with different parties brought forward that, if companies made an effort to reduce their CO₂-emissions, this also yielded business savings. The easiest and quickest way to reduce CO₂-emissions is to eliminate waste.By driving less empty kilometres, for instance, bycombined loading, or by improvingforms of co-operation.To put this simple ideainto practice is not only motivating; it is fun. Eliminating waste and sustaining our future thus go hand in hand:and that is called “Lean and Green”.
Lean and Green is an incentives programme. It stimulates companies to grow to a higher level of sustainability, by taking measures which do not only yield saving in costs, but also reduce the environmental impact.
The Lean and Green Award provides companies with a means to show their active efforts for making their logistical processes more sustainable. It is something to be proud of. Companies can win the Lean and Green Award on the basis of a written plan, which states the CO₂-targets for 2012/2015, and determines theCritical Performance Indicators.
