How can you become Lean and Green?

In 2012, the Duurzame Logistiek Programme, managed by Connekt, will support 250 leading companies in the field of sustainable logistics, in reducing their CO₂emissions by over 20% within a period of 5 years, while simultaneously increasing their profitability. Companies can become front-runners by submitting a Plan of Action that describes how they intend to go about it. The plan of action must meet certain criteria.

After assessment and approval by TNO and Connekt, a company can become a front-runner by winning the Lean and Green Award. This is subject to four criteria:
1. A CO₂baseline measurement, carried out and demonstrated in both absolute and relative emissions (CO₂per unit);
2. The CO₂reduction target is fixed and amounts to at least 20% in 5 years time compared to the year of the baseline measurement;
3. There is an approved Plan of Action in accordance with the prescribed format which stipulates how this objective is to be achieved;
4. The results are monitored periodically in accordance with the Connekt methodology.

Companies are also allowed to display the Lean and Green logo. After obtaining the Lean and Green Award, the companies' achievements are periodically monitored by the Duurzame Logistiek Programme. After securing the Lean and Green Award, there is the option to obtain the Lean and Green Label. This label is currently being developed.
